The Falcon
Steel Rod, Pine
9' x 5' x 5'
August 2012

I applied for a teaching grant at my high school (Jordan High School, Durham NC) in the spring of 2012. I won the grant in order to build a sculpture for the school. I used the money to buy the materials and spend the summer working on the newest of my large-scale outdoor pieces. The falcon is currently installed on the campus of Jordan High School. It is done in the style I have developed over the years with steel rod. The inclusion of the wood was my solution for a base. I wanted the bird to perch on material that seemed more natural than metal, to give the piece an environment rather than a pedestal. I stained the wood red in honor of the school colors.
