Heart
Heart
Steel od, Watercolor Paper
3' x 4' x 6'
October 2009

This is an interactive sculpture. It lights up when you turn the key in the lock over the heart. It symbolizes my theory on art. I believe in inspiration unlocking the heart and allowing it to reach its full potential to glow. The box on the inside of the figure is covered with watercolor paper that is sewn on to fit the form tightly. The lights are concealed by this paper, and glow red when turned on. The process was more technical than most of my other work. But I really wanted to achieve the mechanics necessary to make the key turning in the lock power the lights. Some people are able to unlock our hearts while others simply can't do it. I represented this concept through a self portrait in steel rod.
